Three developments have helped me recently. My daughter Zoe gave me a more powerful Mac, other family members gave me gift certificates that enabled me to buy a refurbished large monitor and I am back to a three day a week schedule at WAAM. The new Mac lets me handle large files easily, so I am making larger pictures with more detail. The three day a week schedule gives me much more time to work on my art.
I finished Sealed with a Kiss and Night Bird this week. To see the entire composition of Night Bird, please click on the thumbnail. Unlike most of my recent work, Night Bird is not a square. And yes, the title does relate to the all-night disk jockey that used to be on WPLJ back in the day. However, there are many other associations as well. Night Bird is meant to be printed at 80 inches wide.

One of the things that I like about the fractal paintings is that they can be rendered at any size. The only limitation is the hardware to project or print the image. The thing to understand is that when a fractal image is blown up, it is not just a bigger view of a smaller picture. It is in fact a different picture. This is because elements of the fractal which were not visible at the smaller size reveal themselves at the larger size, ad infinitum. I have posted a new picture entitled "Silver Seed" with four details to illustrate this point. Again, any part of any of the details could be blown up to reveal hidden structures.

Interstate 87 is also known as the New York Thruway. I drive back and forth between Cold Spring and Woodstock 3 or 4 times a week, so I spend a lot of time on I-87. I have gotten in the habit of chanting the jewel in the lotus mantra on the way up to Woodstock. (On the way home I listen to WDST).

Below are 4 square digital paintings that are meant to be printed at 50 inches. I did these over the past month. More investigation of fractals. Each painting has a 3-D shape that has been altered by the distorto tool in Corel painter. These shapes take the place of the Triple Zero figure that I have been using for a couple of years. More abstract, but still with the feeling of a presence.
Last Winter, Eleni and David Smolen of Theo Ganz Studio in Beacon invited me to do an installation in their gallery's window. The result was Triple Zero Winter Wonderland: 43 images projected on a 38" tall plaster sculpture. Triple Zero is reappearing this fall as Triple Zero Drive-by at the invitation of Tom Christopher, master painter and supporter of the arts. The new installation will be at Tom's Lift Trucks Project space in Croton Falls, NY. There will also be a selection of my prints on view. The curator for the show is Pamela Hart.
